OK, I found another source for the quote I was looking for, on someone else's blog, oddly enough. This is the version from Yahoo!. And here's the quote (which is also the one that the other blogger used, go figure; but he picked on a different aspect of it, so I'm going to go ahead and have my way with it now):

Gee, do you suppose that "freedom" we've defended might include, say, the freedom to *gasp* make their own choices!?!? Sovereign rights, anyone? Or are they just supposed to say "Yas Massuh, whatever you say, thank you for our freedom!"?

Hmm, I haven't been intending to turn this into a political blog (Ghu knows there are enough of those already), but it seems to be leaning that way fast. I think what I had in mind was more just funny things from the news, and one of my favorite forms of news funniness is people being stupid, and there's been a bit of an overabundance of people doing that in the political arena of late. Not that there was ever a shortage, of course. So, I'll look for something else stupid in the news, or something else funny to come up.

LOL. I was looking over that last blog entry, when suddenly I realized that, between my name and the format I've gone with for showing the time of posting, it looks like I'm naming New Testament verses or something. Funny. :)

OK, looks like that fire at the restaurant wasn't so bad, and was actually in the place next door, so while they were closed for a day because the power was out, they're back in business now.

Damn. I had a good quote about & by a Florida Representative, but CNN seems to pretend they've never published what they did; the search function comes up dry. Revisionism kicking in within days???
And I was really looking forward to working this one over, too.

It's a sad day today (or a sad night tonight, really).

On the way home from getting coffee at Fuel, I usually go past my newly preferred late-night dining establishment, Bay View Family Restaurant. Newly preferred because it's in the area I've recently moved to; I don't get to go to it as often as I'd like, though.
But tonight, turning onto Kinnickinnic where it's located, there was something different about it. Like the swarm of flashing lights on emergency vehicles in the street in front of the place, perhaps. Yeah, I think that was it. And the smoke pouring out of the restaurant across the street? Yeah, I don't remember that being a regular feature there, either; at least, I never saw their grease fires get that big while I was there.

I don't know if anyone was hurt, whether they were open or closed at the time or not (they close early on Mondays), but I do hope it'll still be there for me to eventually return to, someday.

P.S. I guess I might have mentioned, I've even updated my other blog, the "GhiaPet.Net" one. Noteworthy news there, and more forthcoming soon. Wow, what's next? Something besides an "under construction" page at GhiaPet.HomeIP.Net?!?

OK, it's been a while, I think I'll do a bit of blogging again, finally. I'll start off with a humourous take on a recent news item; I'm thinking I may make this a regular feature (or as regular as they get, anyway; anyone got any e-Metamucil?), since the worst possible way to misinterpret public statements often occurs to me.

In a story today about a possible massacre by troops allied with the government against rebels in the Ivory Coast, one quotee was talking about the idea of giving the rebels and their allies some representation in the government.
"There is no room for the rebels or the RDR in the government. You can't kill people and then become a minister," said Joel Tiehi of the so-called Young Patriots Alliance.
So, apparently, he thinks you have to become a minister, then kill people! Now it's all clear.
